After many months of campaigning, election promises, rhetoric, and controversy, the US Presidential race concluded earlier this morning with Donald Trump officially being elected the 47th President of the United States. The last time a US President reclaimed the White House after losing it was in 1893 by Grover Cleveland, a Democrat who was the 22nd and 24th President of the US.
Many pundits and pollsters initially thought the election would be too close to call in one night as it seemed Kamala Harris and Donald Trump were in a dead heat in the polls, however that was not the case. Donald Trump and the Republicans got out to an early lead on election night and never looked back prompting the Democrats to question why their message fell flat in the campaign. Kamala Harris will be addressing supporters later on Wednesday.
As of early Wednesday morning, these are the numbers (these may change slightly over the next several hours):
Donald Trump: 70.9 million votes
Kamala Harris: 65.8 million votes
Senate: 51 Republicans elected, 42 Democrats
House of Representatives: 201 Republicans elected, 177 Democrats
