The Saskatchewan Roughriders have swapped players with the Edmonton Eskimos before the end of the long weekend.

Saskatchewan has acquired American wide receiver Kenny Stafford from the Eskimos in exchange for American wide receiver Christion Jones.

Stafford, who stands 6’3″ and weighs 204 lbs, has played in 70 career games between the Eskimos, Calgary Stampeders and the Montreal Alouettes. He played for current Riders Head Coach Craig Dickenson in Edmonton.

“Kenny’s an experienced, polished receiver,” says Dickenson. “He’s got speed, he can stretch the field and we feel like he knows the system.

“He could play this week if we juggled the roster.”

This year Stafford has 30 receptions for 366 yards and two touchdowns.

The deal sees the Riders trade away Jones who hasn’t played in four games–two with injury, the last two as the game-day scratch.

“He deserves an opportunity to play,” says Dickenson. “He’s ready to go, he’s been chomping at the bit and just the way we’ve structured our team, we just didn’t see a way to get him on (the game roster).”
