Over 300 issued layoff notices at Colonsay’s Mosaic potash mine

Mosaic potash is planning to temporarily shut down operations at the Colonsay mine.

The move will result in 395 layoffs at the mine, however 50 employees will continue to work in the maintenance department until operations re-start.

In a release, Mosaic said the North American planting season was challenging this year, with the goal being to lower current potash inventory and wait for market conditions to improve.

However, an attempt to accelerate production at the Esterhazy K3 mine remains on schedule.

The company reported a net loss of 233-million-dollars for the second quarter this year.
