Zoning Bylaw returns to Regina City Council Tuesday night

Regina City council is meeting once again Tuesday to discuss the new zoning bylaw and sign bylaw.

This comes after multiple nights of debate and delegations in June, where council decided to amend the first report and send it back to city administration.

Many businesses have spoken against the sign bylaw as it reads now, which groups all portable signs together, and that the portable signs and billboards will need to be at least 30 metres from permanent billboards.

In a statement, the city says the proposed regulations would ensure all signs would be constructed and displayed in a safe manner that does not negatively impact the look of streets.

Another major concern for delegates was recreational facilities in industrial zones. Administration originally wanted council to not allow any further growth of existing recreation facilities in industrial neighbourhoods, as well as prevent any future ones from opening.

After hearing several delegations of people wanting to keep recreation in the industrial zones, council voted to amend that piece of the bylaw.
