Cody’s been missing all the excitement of the holiday season while he’s been working in Yorkton, SK. I love this photo of us with a bewildered looking Santa.
We might feel a bit like that as well.
If you have kids, I’m sure they are asking you to make cookies for their class, wanting to buy a gift for their teacher or bus driver and I won’t forget about the Christmas pageant. These are the memories of our past. The lights, the tinsel, the anticipation of the holiday season. For me, being the youngest in the family, I couldn’t wait for my sisters to come to the farm from their city jobs!
This weekend, you can take your family out on a beautiful Friday night to watch for the CPKC Holiday Train. It rolls into Regina at Old Mosaic Stadium approximately 7:30pm and stays til 8pm. The crowd will be large on a night such as this. The Holiday Train heads to Moose Jaw to overnight. The lights, the music, the entertainment are all a wonderful way to create the magic of December. Take a flashlight to see your way, wear grippy shoes and a warm coat. The Regina Food Bank will be collecting, so please help if you can.
There will be markets to attend everywhere in Saskatchewan, shop local is key to 2024. The postal disruption has been a downer for the charitable organizations that look to help those that need a hand up. So, if you want to clear your head and help out, put on your running gear and come to the Salvation Army’s Santa Shuffle Fun Run Saturday morning beginning at 9:am. Registration is underway at that time, there will be a warm up and the participants hit the course at 10am. Its only 5K and for the kids there is the Elf Walk. Toy donations will be accepted tomorrow morning and if you feel so inclined, the Salvation Army is still looking for volunteers for their Kettle Campaign.
Our MS Musical Christmas Card is into its second Sunday and Ray will be hosting with special guests. Next weekend it is the live show. Later Sunday, I’m off to be apart of the Prairie Winds Christmas Concert and I know they have some special guests coming out as well. I always look forward to this. And yes, Bob Mossing is back playing with the band. During the concert there will be door prizes and intermission with 50/50 tickets and snacks! This event takes place at the Lakeview United Church. Many of the band members will be familiar from the 620 CKRM Saskatchewan Roughrider Pep Band. The concert begins at 2pm. Doors open at 1.
Yes, Christmas / Holiday December is filled with traditions and events. You do not have to take them all in, but it is fun to go and do something that might not be the “norm” for you. Lift your spirits with new experiences.
