India extends restriction-free imports of Canadian Yellow Peas into the new year

Some good news for producers who grow yellow peas.

India is extending duty-free imports of Canadian yellow peas to February of 2025. It was set to expire on December 31st. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) released an official notification on this extension.

It was supposed to end in March of this year but has been extended over time as demand for yellow peas increases in India.

Canada and Russia are the top exporters of yellow peas to India. Numbers from Stats Canada show India accounted for over half of 635,591 tonnes of Canada’s pea exports during the first two months of the 2024-25 marketing year.
