UPDATE
Highway 1 near Maple Creek has been upgraded to winter driving conditions as of 4:05 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Original story
Drivers may want to reconsider driving in southwestern Saskatchewan today if they don’t need to.
The Highway Hotline says highways in the region are reporting zero visibility with slush, ice, loose snow or slippery sections.
Travel is not recommended at this time on roads near or surrounding Swift Current, Shaunavon, Cypress Hills and Maple Creek.
Just after 3:30 p.m., Environment Canada issued a snow squall advisory for the area, too. This means residents can expect periods of brief but intense, blowing snowfall. Visibility will rapidly reduce.
