Harvest operations have started in some isolated areas of the Saskatchewan grainbelt.

Provincial crops analyst Cory Jacob says early maturing pulse crops and fall-planted cereals have been combined.

Jacob says most of the early harvested crops are in the southwest part of the grainbelt.

There was some rainfall in the northeast and northwest part of the grainbelt this week, improving crops and soil moisture.

The largest downpour was in the Porcupine Plain area at 94 millimeters.

Jacob expects harvest to be underway on a general basis in a couple weeks.

He says some crops are one to two weeks behind normal development.

The majority of crop loss was from strong winds, hail, localized flooding, insects, and lack of moisture.

Topsoil moisture is rated 1 percent surplus, 60 percent adequate, 36 percent short and 3 percent very short.
