The fourth week in July saw a big drop in crop hail damage claims across Saskatchewan.

The president of the Canadian Crop Hail Association, Rick Omelchenko, said mid-July saw 3,000 crop damage claims across the prairies, including 1,200 in Saskatchewan.

He said many communities were affected.

“In Saskatchewan, it’s mostly that Landis, Kelfield, North Battleford, Battleford, Davidson, Simpson, Cupar, Southey, Mossbank, Assiniboia, Gull Lake, Canora, Cut Knife, Spiritwood, Elrose, Frobisher,” Olmelchenko said. “It’s pretty wide spread again, but smaller storms.”

He said the storms were less intense in late July.

“There was rain storms with golf ball to tennis ball sized (hail) again, but not that wide spread, hence the lower amount of claims for this week.”

Omelchenko added late July has seen about 300 claims
