Today is my last day hosting Number 1’s at 1 because Colin Lovequist returns on Monday. On today’s show we’ll look at today’s country music milestones and take a glimpse at the weekend’s big country music moments. Here’s what you can expect on today’s show:
Patricia Conroy was at number 1 on the Canadian RPM Chart this week back in 1994 with a song written by Matraca Berg and Kostas. “Somebody’s Leavin’” came from her “You Can’t Resist” album and it turned out to be her first number 1 in Canada.
Alabama’s album “Mountain Music” was number 1 this week in 1983. Three number 1 hits came from it which included “Mountain Music,” “Close Enough to Perfect,” and “Take Me Down.”
Conway Twitty was into his third and final week in January of 1979 with “Happy Birthday Darlin’.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s milestones, January 4th 1986 The Judds started their second week at number 1 with their first single from the “Rockin with the Rhythm” album. “Have Mercy” would become their fifth number 1 hit.
January 4th 1975 George Jones landed his sixth number 1 hit song. “The Door” stayed at #1 for one week.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Kenny Rogers found himself at the top of the chart on January 5th, 1980 with a song that stayed at the top for 3 weeks that month. In fact, it became a cross over hit for him peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Coward of the Country” would become his 7th number 1 song.
