The Regina Pats engaged in another physical matchup against the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night at the Brandt Centre.
For the 4th time in 5 games between these teams this season, the game needed extra time. The Pats would fall to Saskatoon 5-4 in overtime.
The first period was scoreless until the 13- minute mark when Zach Wytinck scored his 8th of the year to put the Pats up 1-0. Three minutes later, Jakob Brook notched his first as a Pat. The Pats added another with a minute left in the frame with a tip in by Austin Pratt, scoring his 20th. Saskatoon’s Nolan Kneen would score with 5 seconds left to end the period 3-1.
In the second, the Blades tied the game thanks to a power play goal from Tristen Robins, and an even strength goal from Kyle Crnkovic.
Saskatoon would take the lead on a 5- on-3 power play late in the period.
In the third, the Pats tied up the game late with a power play goal from Zach Wytinck, his second goal of the night would go on to force overtime.
In the overtime period, the Blades would score with 47 seconds left to secure the 5-4 win.
The Pats were outshot 39-24 and were 1 for 4 on the power play. Donovan Buskey made 34 saves in the effort.
The Pats look to rebound on Wednesday, when they host Winnipeg.
