U of R hosts veterans for a business boot-camp

Veterans are heading to business boot-camp at the University of Regina this week.

The school is once again hosting the Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur program which helps members leaving the military to launch a second career in business by training them for a week in networking, business planning and accounting.

Associate Professor at the Paul J. Hill School of Business Lisa Watson say. “what  we’re really looking to do is set them on a good foot in order to be successful as they transition into their new lives, but it’s also just really, really good for Canada and the economy as we are encouraging more and more small business in our communities.”

This one week, crash course takes about 20 veterans per year and teaches them everything you need to know about the industry. “From business modelling, to marketing, to accounting, to taxes, to human resources and starting websites. We give them networking opportunities with local entrepreneurs,” says Watson. “They get a little bit of everything they need to really get going.”

Watson adds that this is the least the school can do help give back to the people who have served the country. “The U of R is one of four universities across the country that is able to host this event annually for our veterans. It’s an incredible experience and I have stayed in touch with many of the veterans and they are doing really great things all across the country.”

This year’s POE program runs from August 18th to 24th.
