More COVID variants found in Saskatchewan

 

The Ministry of Health is reporting that three cases of the B1.1.7 UK variant of COVID-19 has been found in Saskatchewan.  Two are from the Regina zone with the other being from the northwest zone.

This brings the provincial total of confirmed variant of concern cases to nine.

The information comes at the same time as the province announces 97 new cases of COVID-19 to go along with 151 recoveries and one death. The person who died was in their 60’s and comes from the Saskatoon zone.

Of the 97 new cases, 50 are from the Regina zone. meaning there were more cases diagnosed in the Regina zone than all other regions combined. The other new cases are located in the Far North West (1), Far North East (5), North West (4), North Central (10), North East (3), Saskatoon (6), Central East (12), South Central (2) and South East (2) zones.

With the 151 recoveries, the active case count is now at 1,463.

140 people are in hospital with 23 of those receiving intensive care.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 144 or 11.7 new cases per 100,000.

892 vaccines were handed out on Sunday bringing the provincial total to 92,776. The north central area saw the most with just over 500.
