The president of the Regina High School Sports Association is calling it a “most unfortunate day for high school athletics in Saskatchewan”

Aaron Anderson makes the comment in a release stating that due to job sanctions being taken by Saskatchewan’s teachers, the high school basketball season has come to an end meaning the provincials known as “HOOPLA” won’t be played in Regina later this month.

The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletics Association announced Wednesday shortly after a 3:30 deadline passed that it is with regret that all remaining SHSAA sanctioned basketball events for the 2019-20 high school season of play are cancelled.

In addition to basketball, all SHSAA sanctioned badminton events are also suspended until further notice, dependent on the duration of sanctions. The SHSAA badminton season of play began on February 10 and is scheduled to conclude on May 9 with the provincial championship in Nipawin.

In a release. the SHSAA says the Executive Council is extremely disappointed at the outcome and the situation that the association was put in and that they are fully aware of the disappoinment being felt by players, coaches and parents.
