The number of grain bags being recycled is up 25 percent in Saskatchewan this year.
Clean Farms operates the recycling program and stakeholder manager Kim Timmer says farmers in this province have turned in almost 16 hundred tons of used grain bags for recycling.
That’s up from almost 13 hundred tons last year.
She says the bags are shipped to the U.S. for recycling into plastic bags.
More than 10 thousand grain bags have been shipped for recycling, amounting to 84 semi-trailer loads.
Farmers pay a handling fee when they purchase grain bags to cover the cost of recycling.
