Regina Pats rookie camp saw their first scrimmage Friday at the Brandt Centre.
15 and 16 year-old players hoping to be one day playing for the Pats showed their skills to the scouts and evaluators in the crowd in the 50 minute scrimmage.
15 year-old forward Carter Cormier said it can be difficult to be a 15 year-old player at a WHL camp.
“Playing against older kids, it’s a little bit harder, but you just got to play up to your competition, and try and go as hard as you can every shift.”
15 year-old defenceman Colby Woogk said since coming up from Fort Worth, Texas, he’s adjusting well to Regina so far.
“I heard it was a good place, (I) didn’t know what to expect,” Woogk said. “Now that I’m here I love it.”
15 year-old defenceman Layton Feist, whose older brother Tyson plays for the Pats, said he has enjoyed the early part of camp so far.
“It’s been really good so far, I’m just a bit out of shape (because) I haven’t been training for the last bit, but it’s been great so far.”
Training camp will continue throughout the weekend. The Pats annual blue and white game will be played on Monday.
