Halifax and Moncton selected as hosts of 2023 WJHC

The 2023 World Junior Hockey Championships  are heading to the Maritimes.

Hockey Canada announced on Thursday, Halifax and Moncton have been chosen as the hosts of the 2023 World Juniors.  A joint bid from Regina and Saskatoon were among the groups that were competing against the Maritime group.

The last time the World Juniors were held in Atlantic Canada was back in 2003 when Halifax and Sydney were the hosts.

Russia was scheduled to host the 2023 World Juniors, but the IIHF removed them as hosts following the invasion of Ukraine.

The 2023 World Juniors will kick off December 26.

The 2022 World Juniors will be held in Edmonton in August. The 2022 tournament was cancelled due to COVID concerns.
