By the time I pulled up to my computer this morning I had already been awake for more than 4 hours. Last night was just one of those nights that I couldn’t sleep. After getting home just after 8 from another 620 CKRM Country Cookout, I thought I’d have a pretty good sleep. Nothing like a good meal and some fresh air to get a guy tired and ready for a good night’s slumber, right? Wrong!
When I went to bed last night I was tired and ready for a good night of sawing logs. I didn’t read as long as I usually do before falling asleep. My book kept wanting to fall from my hand and tumble to the floor. I finally gave just after 9 and was out within minutes.
The next thing I knew I was wide awake and when I looked at the clock it was 10:45. Hey, no problem. Lots of time to get back to sleep to be well rested for the work day. The trouble was, I felt like I just had 10 hours of sleep. I wasn’t tired at all. So, for the next 4 hours I tossed and turned and wrestled with the cat for good bed position.
I kept looking at the clock playing the old “if I get to sleep right now” game.
Usually when this happens I feel like I could finally go to sleep about 10 minutes before the alarm clock is ready to go off. Not this morning. I just wasn’t tired at all. When you work a crazy shift like this, it isn’t uncommon to have a night like this once in a while. It’s not that big of a deal.
I never really worry about it. Once I have a shower and get into a couple of cups of coffee, I’m ready to go for the day!
Looking at the bright side, at least I’m pretty well guaranteed to have a great sleep tonight.
