The Regina Pats are now owned by the Brandt Group of Companies.
Brandt, who had been a co-owner of the team as a partner in Queen City Sports and Entertainment, is taking over sole ownership in a move that has been approved by the WHL Board of Governors and is effective immediately.
Current Pats President Todd Lumbard, who was also part of Queen City Sports and Entertainment, will remain with the organization in an advisory capacity.
Speaking with 620 CKRM shortly after the announcement was made, Brandt CEO Shaun Semple said this was something that was simply the right thing to do.
“Todd and Anthony (Marquart) decided to sell so we thought it would be great to buy the team and give it a solid footing.” Semple said.
He adds Regina has had a great history with the Pats and he couldn’t be happier to continue the association they have
“This team was founded in 1917. They have been around during world wars, pandemics, major depressions and other events. They have been a center for the city for creating community spirit, involvement and engagement. I think the city needs teams like the Pats as we come out of COVID so we looked at what we could do as the Brandt family while giving the Pats what they need to win.” Semple said. ” We think there are some pretty exciting days ahead.”
The move comes as the Pats open up an abbreviated 24-game season at the Brandt Centre Friday night against the Prince Albert Raiders.
