Team Canada has won gold at the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship.
After trailing Russia 3-1 near the halfway point of the third period, Canada climbed back to tie the game with goals from Connor McMichael and Barrett Hayton just two minutes apart from each other.
With four minutes to go in regulation and tied at 3-3, Akil Thomas completed the comeback for Canada with a highlight reel goal to make it 4-3.
The Russians were unable to take advantage of a late power play opportunity, and took two penalties to put Canada on two-man advantage and kill their chances of tying the game.
This is Canada’s 18th gold medal at the world juniors.
Next year’s tournament will be in Alberta hosted by both Edmonton and Red Deer.
