If the Brandt Centre had been full, Connor Bedard would have brought them to their feet in the second period of the Pats season opener against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The 15-year-old. who is the first exceptional status player in WHL history, scored two goals in a 47-second span as Regina fell 6-3 to the Raiders.

Bedard admitted he was a little nervous going into the game but once he got a couple of shifts under his belt, he felt fine.  He was also fine with the team’s performance despite a three-goal loss.

“I thought we played pretty well and that we deserved a better outcome.” Bedard told Phil Andrews after the game. “I think if we keep playing like we did tonight, we will be a tough team to beat.

Head Coach Dave Struch also wasn’t disappointed with the effort even if they didn’t get the win.

“We played hard, we played fast. Overall, I thought it was really good.  I thought we carried the play, but they capitalized on their opportunities and we didn’t do that.” Struch said.

The Pats will play Saskatoon in a 4 o’clock start Sunday in a game you can hear on 620 CKRM.
