SaskPower begins smart meter pilot project

SaskPower is running a pilot project for smart meters in Saskatchewan.

The Crown Corporation has installed over 35,000 commercial and industrial smart meters, and has conducted extensive amounts of tests on the residential meters to ensure they meet SaskPower’s standards.

Customers are being encouraged to register for a smart meter, especially those who are part of the Net metering program or those who have received a notice that their meter is due for replacement. The installation and the smart meter itself come at no cost to the customer.

Over 1,500 SaskPower employees and over 2,200 customers are already set to receive a meter, with the Crown Corporation looking to install 30,000 during the pilot project. Installation will be scheduled between May and August of this year.

Registration is available on the SaskPower website.
