RCMP Academy postponing training due to COVID-19

The RCMP Academy has announced that training at Depot has ceased, and all public events are suspended due to COVID-19.

While there are no presumptive cases of COVID-19  at the Academy, the RCMP say that their primary concern is the safety of the public and their employees.

One troop is scheduled to graduate on Monday, RCMP say that ceremony will go forward without any visitors, including family.

Three other troops who are scheduled to complete their training and graduate over the next week, will do so under the same conditions.

Allowing these troop graduate will mean the deployment of over 120 new RCMP officers across Canada.

All remaining troops are being sent home through an organized departure plan, and future troop arrivals have been postponed.

RCMP say training will continue once cleared by provincial and national health agencies.

Mounties say that Regular Members, who are deemed fit for duty may be re-deployed to areas where they are needed.
