Regina Humane Society hosts free family fun for North Central residents

Free fun for all ages will be taking place Saturday afternoon in North Central Regina hosted by the Regina Humane Society.

Families in North Central are invited to participate in the culminating event for the humane society’s Pet S.T.O.P. (Supply, Training and Outreach Program) initiative – the Animal Well Fair.

The annual event is hosted every September and features trivia and games to help teach kids skills to take care of their pets.

Bill Thorn, the director of marketing and public relations for the Regina Humane Society, said it’s one his favourite events they organize every year.

“It’s an opportunity for families and people who live in that area to have fun with games that have an educational component to them,” he stated. “Watching the kids having fun, they’re learning but they may not even realize it.”

While the fair is geared towards getting young ones engaged with activities at the park, it’s also a chance for parents and guardians to learn more about pet care, too.

Thorn said people will be able to get more information regarding their subsidized spay/neuter program to help reduce the overpopulation of animals in Regina.

“The North Central area is an area where we do see that on a bit higher instance than other parts of the city, so it’s about that as well.”

Community members will also have access to free pet food, collars, leashes and other pet care necessities.

Thorn added how North Central residents who have well-behaved pets are welcome to bring them as long as they are leashed.

The Animal Well Fair runs from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Grassick Playground located at the corner of 4th Avenue and Garnet Street.
