14 new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, 86 in total

The province of Saskatchewan has confirmed 14 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total to 86 in the province.

Of the 86 cases, four are related to local transmission, the rest are travel related.

There are currently four people hospitalized because of COVID-19. Four of the cases are 19 years old or younger, 69 are between the ages of 20 and 64, and 13 are 65 years old or older.

“Two of the hospitalizations are in ICU, two in hospitals in Saskatchewan. We can’t provide any more specific details,” shared Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab on Wednesday.

“Some of these hospitalizations are due to underlying medical conditions with COVID-19 as a diagnosis was made either before hospitalization or during hospitalization.”

When asked why there isn’t more precise information on age breakdowns and gender cases, Dr. Shahab said it’s something they are working towards.

“We will start getting more specific information in terms of breaking down age groups. Like 20 to 64, maybe [separate] into two age groups between 20 to 64 now that we have bigger numbers.”

57 per cent of cases in the province are males.

To date, 6.270 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan. Dr. Shahab said that number is on the higher side of total tests when compared to other jurisdictions in Canada.
