Red Sox and other Sask. based WCBL teams opting out of 21 season

For a second straight year, Currie Field will be quiet with no Regina Red Sox baseball.

On Thursday morning, the Western Canadian Baseball League announced that while they plan to play the upcoming season with all-Canadian rosters, all of the league’s Saskatchewan based teams and the Brooks Bombers have decided to opt out, with plans to return for 2022.

Those teams say the uncertainty of border issues and current COVID-19 restrictions are the reasons behind the move.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks and Fort MacMurray Giants say they plan on playing at this time, but they are continuing to discuss the options available to them.
