Carter Massier scored the game winning goal for the Regina Pats Thursday, who topped the Prince Albert Raiders 5-3 at the Brandt Centre.

Connor Bedard extended his point streak to seven games with two assists in the win.

Meanwhile Pats rookie forward Braxton Whitehead, scored his first goal in the win, afterwards he said the team played a complete game.

“We were really pumped in the locker room, we battled hard the whole game and it was just a combined effort from everyone you know on the penalty kills and then we capitalized on our opportunities, it was lots of fun out there today,” he said.

“It felt like a long time since I’ve scored since all of the hockey that’s been cancelled, but I was ecstatic and of course want to do it again next game,” Whitehead said when asked about scoring his first goal.

For Coach Dave Struch, Thursday’s win was something he felt was earned by the team after a tough loss on Tuesday to Winnipeg.

“Well the players, they deserved it,” Struch said. ” We’ve seen so much development from day one, especially how we play away from the puck, we reaped the rewards of doing it. In the first period they were all over us, but we played really good defensively,” Struch said.

The win improves the Pats to (2-3-2-0) on the year with their next game coming Friday afternoon afternoon against Saskatoon, who is yet to lose a game in regulation this season (6-0-1-0).
