Three more Saskatchewan firefighters are being sent down south the help with the Australia wildfires.

Over the weekend, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency flew three more people to the wildfire ravaged country for 38 days.

They will be relieving those who were deployed in the beginning of December.

“Australia is in dire need of help and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is more than willing to answer that call,” SPSA President Marlo Pritchard said in a release.  “As a province well versed in evacuations and fighting wildfires, the province of Saskatchewan sends not only its assistance but also its heartfelt condolences to those affected by this tragedy.”

The group is mainly stationed in the northeastern part of the state and filling operational, planning and aviation roles.

The severe fire season in Australia has led to fatalities, property loss and destruction of large areas around New South Wales and Queensland.
