A Regina doctor is being suspended for inappropriate behavior.

The Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan has suspended Dr. El-fellani Mohammed for three months after finding he was behaving inappropriately and inappropriately touched two female patients in 2016.

Dr. Mohammed is also now required to have a female chaperone for in-person professional encounters with women patients, take a course on ethics and professionalism, as well as pay the full costs incurred in the investigation equaling $87,467.69.

The college’s decision published on Monday says Dr. Mohammed engaged in a number of acts involving two patients that  “constituted professional misconduct individually and can be seen as an escalating pattern of unprofessional conduct.”

The statement adds that on July 19th, 2016, Dr. Mohammed did a stethoscope exam by putting his hand and the stethoscope down the front of a woman’s shirt, placing the stethoscope on her breast. A similar situation was reported with the same patient at a follow-up appointment on August 18th, with Dr. Mohammed also putting his arm around her lower back and touching her buttocks.

The college says similar behavior with a second patient and asked increasing personal questions that were unnecessary and inappropriate to the exam.

The suspension begins on October 13th.
