The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan is calling on government to provide support for farmers facing drought.

APAS president Todd Lewis says many farmers are facing a third straight year of below average moisture.

He is calling for government to assist with water supplies and designate the entire province eligible for the Federal Livestock Tax deferral Program.

Lewis is also calling for creation of a provincial drought committee to monitor conditions and oversee assistance
measures.

APAS is also calling on Crop Insurance to consider a program to encourage the conversion of drought-damaged grain crops into livestock feed.

Lewis says farmers across the province are facing considerable stress because of a lack of rainfall.
