Number 1’s at 1 – September 19

Coming up on today’s edition of Number 1’s at 1:

  • We’re going to do a double shot of Alan Jackson as he celebrated two major milestones on this day. First off, he found himself at the top of the country albums chart on this day in 1998 with “High Mileage.” He wrote five of the ten tracks including “Gone Crazy” and “Little Man.” His biggest song from that album and its only number 1 was “Right on the Money.” Exactly six years earlier in 1992 Jackson found himself at number 1 with “Love’s Got a Hold on You,” staying there for two weeks.
  • The Oak Ridge Boys landed another number 1 on this day in 1987 with “This Crazy Love.” It was their first number 1 since William Lee Golden’s departure from the group.
  • Mickey Gilley managed to get his 12th number one hit on this day in 1981 with an old Eddy Arnold Song. “You Don’t Know Me” stayed at the top for one week.
  • Ray Price took an early Kris Kristofferson song to number one on this day 49 years ago. “For the Good Times” was not only successful for Price, but it established Kristofferson as a talented songwriter in Nashville.
  • Jason McCoy was seeing big success on the Canadian RPM chart this week back in 2000 with “Kind of Like it’s Love.”
  • And we’ll celebrate two birthdays today one of which includes Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers.

I hope you’ll join us this afternoon at 1:00 for an exciting journey though country music history!
