Roughriders Green and White Game shortened due to poor air quality in Saskatoon

It was an abbreviated edition of the Green and White game at SMF (Saskatoon Minor Football) Field for the Saskatchewan Roughriders but there were still a few highlights on Saturday.

For the safety of the players, the scrimmage was cancelled following two drives due to the poor quality in the air cause by the smoke from the wildfires.

Even in limited action, Derel Walker displayed some his fine snatching abilities with a couple of catches, including a circus catch where Walker used defensive back Nic Marshall’s back to trap the ball as the receiver held on for the reception.

After the scrimmage, Dickenson was happy from he saw from Walker.

“He’s a good football player, he had a nice scrimmage, we’ll challenge him to have a good week, next week take it into the preseason. ”

Even though it was shortened Green and White Day, Dickenson still enjoyed the meeting with the team’s fanbase in Saskatoon.

“You get recharged when you’re interacting with the fans out here because you realize how much they love football and how much they really support us, best place to coach in the CFL.”

Despite the scrimmage ending prematurely, the fans still got the chance to get autographs from all of the Roughriders.

On Sunday, the Roughriders will have an off-day before they return to the field on Monday for practice.

The Roughriders will open up the preseason on next Saturday against the BC Lions at Mosaic Stadium.
