The Regina Pats released a statement Wednesday morning after learning of the passing of Connor Bedard’s grandfather Garth Bedard, in a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday near Sicamous B.C.

“The Regina Pats Hockey Club extends our deepest condolences to Connor and the entire Bedard family after the passing of Garth Bedard.

We know how close Connor was with his grandfather, who was one of Connor’s biggest fans. Garth was incredibly proud of Connor and took great joy in his grandson’s passion for hockey and even more so in the person he has become.

Connor will remain with the Pats for his final WHL game this season on Friday, April 9 before returning home to North Vancouver, B.C. on Saturday, April 10 to be with his family.

We will continue to stand with Connor and his family during this difficult time, as they grieve the loss of someone who meant so much.” The state meant reads.

Bedard will not be available for comment prior to his departure from the team.

The WHL’s first ever player to receive exceptional status has had a very impressive rookie season with the Pats, putting up at least a point in every game but one, and leading the WHL in scoring with 26 points in 14 games.

Bedard is also third in the league in goals and fourth in assists.
