Regina police to help with investigation into in-custody death in Saskatoon

The Regina Police Service will be conducting an investigation into an in-custody death that happened in Saskatoon early Saturday morning.
Saskatoon police were called to the scene at 1 a.m. where a 32-year-old man had been causing a disturbance, while carrying what has been described as a large butcher’s knife and a bottle of alcohol, with the man’s face covered in blood.
The man became aggressive and confrontational with police, and a struggle ensued.
Medavie emergency services were called to treat the injuries to the man’s face after the struggle and he was in custody. Saskatoon police say the man became unresponsive when Medavie arrived and died on his way to hospital.
Regina police will conduct an independent investigation into the man’s death and the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety will appoint an independent observer.
