Many Reginans have had a case of “heavy-foot” when going through a school zone this month

It would seem as if quite a few Reginans may have forgotten to slow down to 30 kilometers an hour when going through a school zone.

Regina police say they have nabbed 430 drivers as of Monday going through those zones too fast. That number is actually likely higher since it does not include those caught by a photo radar camera.

RPS spokesperson Les Parker says that number is disappointing considering we haven’t even gotten through the first month of school yet.

“When you consider the context of why we slow down in a school zone, it is disappointing. ” Parker said. “It is something that is being done for the safety of children,”

Parker adds thankfully no child has been hit in a school zone and adds that while there was a summer-long educational campaign aimed at drivers to remember that the speed in a school-zone was being reduced to 30 that perhaps more needs to be done to get the message through to some who obviously aren’t adhering to it.
