This morning on my way to work I was on Victoria Avenue and there was a car about a block ahead of me waiting on a red light. He didn’t wait for long. As a matter of fact, he didn’t wait at all. He decided, with no traffic in the area, he might as well just proceed on his merry way. It’s not like he ran the red light, he stopped and just didn’t wait for the light to turn green. I guess you could say he moseyed through a red light.

Hey, I’ve done that myself! I have pulled up to the corner of Vic and Rose in the past where I haven’t felt like waiting either. It’s my last turn before getting to work and the odd time, if there’s not another vehicle in sight, I’ll just crank it left through the red and roll to the front of the radio station. It’s not like I blow through a red light or anything. I do come to a complete stop!

Last week on my way home from work I was headed north on Rose street approaching the intersection at 11th Avenue. I had a green light and just as I was approaching the intersection a lady drove straight through a red light right in front of me heading west on 11th, totally oblivious to the fact that she should have stopped. Both hands were on her steering wheel so I know she wasn’t fiddling with her cell phone. She just wasn’t paying attention. It’s a good thing I didn’t leave work a couple of seconds sooner, otherwise I would have had a vehicle parked in my passenger seat!

So, the lesson for the day is, don’t run a red light unless it’s 3 o’clock in the morning and you come to a complete stop first.

And, most importantly, make sure there are no cops around! Apparently, they’re not big fans of that.
