Those in southwestern Saskatchewan should be prepared to dig out from what is expected to be a significant snowfall this weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for areas including Swift Current, Shaunavon, Gull Lake, Maple Creek, the Cypress Hills and Assiniboia as up to thirty centimeters of snow could fall on the region between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.

The snow will be accompanied by strong northeast winds giving blowing snow on Sunday. Travel will become increasingly difficult Saturday night through Sunday.

The Regina area is expected to get a snow/rain mixture on the weekend, but any accumulations received are not expected to be what will be seen in the southwest.  However, early models suggest Regina could see up to eight centimeters of snow with Moose Jaw getting twice that.
