People in Saskatchewan can expect cool weather with plenty of precipitation throughout the weekend.
Winter storm watches have been placed in the Shaunavon and Assiniboia regions as residents will see snowfall to end September. Swift Current, Leader and Moose Jaw are communities who are under winter storm watches.
The system passing through the prairies over the next couple days will bring blowing snow to a number of areas. But can residents in the Regina area expect any of that snow?
Environment Canada meteorologist Mark Melsness said no doubt it will be a wet weekend, however there may be more droplets than flakes.
“By the time it gets to Regina, it’ll start to run into warmer air, so we’re looking at a mix of rain and snow,” explained Melsness.
While there may be light snow early Sunday morning when temperatures drop below 0°C, he expects there will be more rain than snow throughout Saturday and during the morning and afternoon hours on Sunday.
However that’s set to change by Sunday night.
“That’s when you could see some snowfall accumulations around Regina. It’ll be on the edge of the main snow area since areas north and west of Regina will be quite a bit worse.”
The weekend will be full of rain and snow for the majority of the province with communities in southwestern Saskatchewan getting hit hardest.
Once the weekend is over, Melsness admitted things are looking a bit better during the week. “Possibly Monday and Tuesday looking at just cloudy conditions, another system could bring more rain on Wednesday, but after that hopefully we’ll see some clear sky.”
