Riders sign former NFL and XFL linebacker to contract

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are hoping they have found themselves a player who can contribute on the defensive side of the football.

On Tuesday afternoon, the team announced the signing of former Florida State linebacker Matthew Thomas.

He played in 10 regular season games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018 after signing as an undrafted free agent.

He then spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and the St. Louis Battlehawks of the now-defunct XFL.

In his last year at Florida State, the 6 foot 3, 230 pound linebacker had a career high 85 tackles in his senior season to lead the team for a second straight year including 10 tackles for loss.
