Saskatchewan cattle producers welcome a new federal support plan to ensure critical food inspection services are not disrupted by the covid-19 outbreak.
Ottawa is providing 20 million dollars to the Food Inspection Agency to hire, train and equip additional staff to ensure critical inspection services are not disrupted during the pandemic.
Saskatchewan Stock Growers general manager Chad MacPherson says the support plan will ensure critical livestock processing services are not disrupted.
The CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, Ryder Lee, also expressed support for the federal plan to increase staff and training for inspection at meat processing plants.
Ottawa says it is offering provincial inspectors some federal training to ensure there is no slowdown in meat packing plants during the covid-19 outbreak.
