Parks Canada cancelling all activities until at least May 31st

Parks Canada announced that all camping, group activities and events at all national parks and heritage sites have been cancelled until May 31st, at the least.

The cancellations mean that all visitor services, including reception, information, lockage and mooring, are closed, along with washroom facilities, day use areas and visitor centres.

In a statement, Jonathan Wilkinson, the minister responsible for Parks Canada, said that they are taking these measures to help keep people safe.

“Like all Canadians , I love our national parks and historic sites, but at this time we must all continue to do our part to flatten the curve, look out for one another, and make choices that will help reduce the pressure on our health-care system,” said Wilkinson.

As a result of the cancellations, Parks Canada will not be taking new reservations until at least June 1st, and all reservations prior to May 31st will be cancelled and refunded in full.

Parks Canada adds that all highway maintenance, fire response, dam operations, water management, and avalanche control services will all continue.
