‘My Body, My Choice’ rally marches through Regina

With the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade fresh in the mind of many, a crowd of over 100 people marched from Victoria Park to the Saskatchewan Legislative Building with ‘My Body, My Choice’ as their message.

Aries Gajari, the rally organizer, said she wanted to raise awareness that Canada faces its own abortion problems.

“There is very limited access, even in Saskatchewan,” she said. “Only in Regina and Saskatoon can you get abortions. All the reverses and small towns, there is no way to get here now that STC has been closed down. There is basically no access at all to them, and even right now, Planned Parenthood is closed, so affordable ways are no longer accessible.”

Gajari noted that she feels abortion will never be banned in Canada; however, provinces like Saskatchewan may further limit access to abortion services.

“Regina is the only city in Saskatchewan that you can self-request abortions, and it has to be after nine weeks only,” she said. “If there were more ways for people to request stuff like that in smaller towns at the medical centres, that would increase accessibility for more residents in Saskatchewan.”

Gajari added that overall the rally was a way for everyone to make sure their voice was being heard.
