Sask. Chamber of Commerce pleased with province’s plan to reopen

Saskatchewan’s five-phased plan to reopen the province is being supported by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

Steve McLellan, CEO of the Sask. Chamber, said it’s a responsible strategy that will require patience in order for its execution to be successful.

“We know that the science will determine that and we trust the science,” explained McLellan.

“Every business in the province, although they are eager to get back to work in some sort of structure and earning back revenues, they are also concerned about the medical realities. This is the best advice from our chief medical health officer.”

McLellan added that people will have to be aware that sales at businesses that slowly open during the first stages of the plan may be very slow for the first while.

He hopes all levels of government will assist businesses to sustain themselves through that period of time.

But moving forward, he said it’s now up to the business community and the general public to follow the guidelines.

“We can’t work against the best intentions of the provincial government and our health officials here.”

McLellan realizes people are asking about the dates with phases three to five and when those could be determined. He reiterated his trust behind the science and his confidence in Dr. Saqib Shahab when making those calls down the road.
