The province’s operated casinos saw a bounce-back year, despite being closed for half of the year.

SaskGaming reported $19.1 million in net income aided by increased revenues from the reopening of Casino Regina and Moose Jaw, which were closed in both the first and fourth quarters of 2021-22.

Despite seeing a net income of over $19 million, SaskGaming will only retain $9.5 million as the rest of the money will be paid to the General Revenue Fund, which will go towards the Community Initiatives Fund and the First Nations Trust.

SaskGaming is far from its ordinary income as it averaged $21.9 million in net income in the three years before the pandemic compared to the $9.5 million.

The corporation reported revenue of $77.8 million for the fiscal year, up from $30.9 million in the previous year. Expenses rose last year, at $58.7 million in 2021-22 compared to 44.3 million in 2020-21.

“SaskGaming saw steady improvement in 2021-22, as we emerged from the era of pandemic-related restrictions,” Minister Responsible for SaskGaming Don Morgan said. “With nearly a full year of operations under its belt, SaskGaming was able to contribute $9.6 million to the province’s General Revenue Fund to support the First Nations Trust, Community Initiatives Fund and Clarence Campeau Development Fund.”

The fiscal year ended on March 31, 2022.
