The new Canadian high commissioner to the UK says one of his first goals will be a new trade deal with Great Britain.

Former Regina MP Ralph Goodale says a temporary deal is in place but a more permanent agreement needs to be put in place.

Goodale says farm trade will also be one of his key projects in his new role.

He says Canada exports a wide range of products to the UK including durum, lentils, chickpeas and steel and there is potential to expand sales.

Goodale says Saskatchewan sells about 77 million dollars worth of wheat, canola and other crops to the U.K. each year.

He says Canada-UK trade totals 30 billion dollars in goods and 15 billions dollars in services.
