Pats need shootout to knock off Prince George

The Regina Pats will get on the bus Thursday morning for a trip through the US Division.  They will get on the bus and start making the long trek in a good mood after a  5-4 shootout victory over the Prince George Cougars Wednesday night.

Regina trailed the game 3-1 after one period of play, but goals by Logan Nijhoff and Zack Smith tied the game at 3 midway through the second.  Moments after tying it though the Cougars took the lead again and held that lead until the 16:48 mark of the 3rd when Nijhoff scored his second of the night sending the game into overtime.

The five-minute overtime could not produce a winner so the teams went to the shootout with Cole Dubinsky scoring on Regina’s third attempt to keep the game going.  They then won it when Smith beat Prince George netminder Taylor Gauthier with Regina goalie Max Paddock then thwarting Tyson Upper.

After the game, the team announced it had traded 18 year old defenceman Tyson Feist to the Kelowna Rockets for a draft pick in the 2020 Bantam Draft.  This will allow Feist an opportunity to play for the Memorial Cup as the Rockets are the host team.

The win improves Regina’s record to 12-21-3-2.  They are in Kennewick, Washington to take on the Tri-City Americans Saturday night at 9 in a game you can hear on 620 CKRM.
