Regina Police repeating warning about the dangers of illegal drugs after 5 overdoses Friday

Regina Police are once again warning about dangerous, illegal drugs, after another five apparent drug overdoses Friday, including one death believed to a result of an overdose.

Since January 1st, there have been 208 overdoses in Regina, with 11 confirmed deaths, and 9 unconfirmed deaths.

RPS is repeating it’s call for residents to be vigilant in reporting illegal drug use and potential overdoses in their community. They add that drug trafficking investigations aren’t enough on their own to curb the drug problem in the city.

Police are trying to educate people on the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act, which protects anyone who is experiencing, or who is present when someone is experiencing an overdoes from charges for drug possession.

The signs of a drug overdose are difficulty walking or staying awake, blue lips or nails, small pupil, cold and clammy skin, dizziness and confusion, drowsiness, and slow, weak, or no breathing.

Anyone who is experiencing a drug overdose, or is present when someone is experiencing one, is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
